Thomas Hogervorst

Intern Architect

Thomas completed his Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering at the Delft University of Technology in 2020 and expects to complete his Master's degree in Architecture at Delft University in 2023. He is currently having a gap year where he is interning at different architectural firms to gain real-world experience. He did an internship at an architectural firm in Copenhagen and is currently an intern at Paul de Ruiter Architects until mid-July 2022.

From a young age, Thomas has been involved in creativity. He loved to draw and played a lot with lego. From elementary school onwards he knew he wanted to become an architect. "The mix of creativity and the technical aspects of architecture appealed to me," says Thomas.

During his internship in Copenhagen, Thomas worked on the design phase for a town hall and library in Dordrecht. He also participated in a competition for a transformation project of the Rotterdam Library.

Thomas was curious about the sustainability ambitions within Paul de Ruiter Architects and how these ambitions influence the design process and the execution. He noticed that the choices made in other companies are less likely to be made from a sustainability perspective. "Global warming is a serious problem, we should not pass this on to the next generation, but act seriously on it," says Thomas. This is an important reason why Thomas decided to do an internship at Paul de Ruiter Architects.

Thomas likes the working environment at Paul de Ruiter Architects: "There is a nice atmosphere. There are good moments where you can work seriously, but there is also time for a chat with your colleague."
