Mama Shelter Amsterdam will open its doors in 2027, bringing its exuberant, quirky, and bold concept to the Dutch capital.

Ennismore, the fastest-growing lifestyle and hospitality company, along with investor Chagall B.V. and White House Development B.V., are excited to announce the start of construction for Mama Shelter Amsterdam. The Dutch location is set to open in the first quarter of 2027, blending local Amsterdam charm with Mama's distinctive character.

Located in one of Amsterdam's most vibrant and creative neighborhoods, once an industrial area, Mama Shelter Amsterdam will embrace the unique DNA of its new surroundings. Designed by Mama Shelter’s in-house team, guests can expect bold interiors, from ceilings covered in colorful graffiti to unique ornaments throughout the hotel that reference the local environment. Mama's playful personality will also shine through in the 150 vibrant guest rooms, reminding visitors not to take life too seriously.

The hotel’s design, by Amsterdam-based architecture firm Paul de Ruiter Architects, is circular and energy-neutral, reflecting a sustainable future while paying homage to the building’s industrial heritage. In September 2024, the main contractor, J.P. van Eesteren, began construction on the project.

Maurits Kortleven from White House Development B.V. said: "We are very excited to collaborate with such a great team. Like in many other cities worldwide, Mama Shelter Amsterdam will become an icon and hotspot for both locals and travelers. Paul de Ruiter Architects have done a fantastic job combining heritage and sustainability, and the hotel is expected to receive the BREEAM Excellent certification. Together with our asset manager, European Hotel Capital B.V., we look forward to the grand opening!"

At this urban retreat, shared experiences and coziness will be at the heart of the concept. Mama Shelter Amsterdam will create a special atmosphere in its four F&B venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, a restaurant bar, a terrace, and a rooftop bar. Offering everything from homemade food classics to unique cocktails and regularly scheduled "Mama Nights" featuring top DJs and live music, it will become a social hotspot. For those seeking a more intimate space for gatherings, the hotel will offer 80 square meters of unique meeting and event spaces, including karaoke rooms and fully equipped breakout containers.

Cedric Gobilliard, Brand Chief Operating Officer of Mama Shelter at Ennismore, said: “Mama thrives where urban excitement meets warm hospitality. Mama Shelter Amsterdam promises to deliver an immersive experience in this unique corner of Amsterdam, where local charm merges with Mama's quirky character. We are thrilled to work with White House Development B.V. to bring Mama to the heart of the 'Venice of the North,' creating an unforgettable base in the Dutch capital."

Mama Shelter, founded by Serge Trigano and his two sons, Jérémie and Benjamin, is a place where life is celebrated to the fullest. The concept is affordable, quirky, popular, bold, and sexy. Mama has created a sanctuary for its guests, treating travelers like family. The first Mama Shelter in East Paris was followed by hotels in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles, Prague, Belgrade, Toulouse, Lille, London, West Paris, Luxembourg, Rome, Lisbon, La Défense in Paris, Rennes, Dijon, and Nice. Future locations are planned for Dubai, Casablanca, and Cape Town. Mama Shelter Amsterdam will join the existing Ennismore properties in Amsterdam, The Hoxton Amsterdam, and The Hoxton Lloyd.

Just a stone's throw from the city’s historic center, Mama Shelter will find its new home in Amsterdam Noord, only 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station and 25 minutes from Schiphol Airport. This quirky part of the city is thriving with avant-garde energy—formerly unassuming shipyards and abandoned industrial sites are now home to some of the best bars and eateries in Noord, while culture enthusiasts can explore Amsterdam’s modern icon, the Eye Filmmuseum—a futuristic cinema, museum, and film archive. At sunset, the A'DAM Lookout offers unparalleled panoramic views of the city’s famous UNESCO-listed canals.
