Unilever Hive wins 'Best BREEAM New Construction | Non-Residential Project'

July 11, 2024 BREEAM Awards 2024

While the Netherlands watched the Netherlands-England match with great anticipation on Wednesday evening, Paul de Ruiter Architects attended the annual BREEAM Awards in London – the most important international awards in the field of sustainable construction. And for good reason: the Unilever Foods Innovation Centre 'Hive', designed by us for Unilever and Dura Vermeer, won the award for Best New Construction, Non-residential Project.

With a BREEAM-NL Outstanding certification of 93.24%, the Hive, located in Wageningen, is the most sustainable laboratory building in the world. Nutritionists, start-ups, researchers, and students collaborate there on the food innovations of the future. The evening saw multiple Dutch successes. HAUT Amsterdam (Team V Architecture) was awarded Best New Construction Residential Project, Mark e.o. HUIZEN received the award for Best BREEAM In-Use Residential Building, and Fugro NewHQ (Cepezed) won the People's Choice Whole of BREEAM Award.

Despite the disappointment of the early end of the Netherlands' Euro Championship journey, we are proud of the Dutch successes in sustainable construction. These recognitions underscore the innovative character and leading position of the Netherlands in the world of sustainable architecture.
