Eliza Fürjes

Intern

Eliza is currently in her final year of a master’s program at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, after two years of studying abroad at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. As of September 2024, she started working as an intern at Paul de Ruiter Architects.

Driven by her passion for sustainability, she previously gained hands-on experience through various international courses, such as the Future Proof Minor at Windesheim University Zwolle, which focused on circular and green urban redesign. Additionally, she was part of the IMSPD Action Research Group at KU Leuven, where students tackle spatial development planning through an interdisciplinary, on-site approach. As she puts it: “It is substantial for a sustainable future to understand the physical implication of one’s design, and therefore to experience it on the field.”

Currently, Eliza is working on a school project that involves revitalizing a historically significant site in Groningen. Alongside her teammates and office advisors,  the project deepens the meaning of sustainability through the importance of reusing the existing urbanized sites. She has found that the friendly and diverse environment at Paul de Ruiter Architects fosters creativity and motivates people to explore new, climate-responsible ways of designing for the future, helping her team approach the project with fresh, innovative perspectives.

Eliza first became interested in Paul de Ruiter Architects when seeking opportunities to apply her architectural knowledge in an international setting. She was particularly attracted by the firm's visions for a circular living and climate accountability. Eliza aims to build on the knowledge and experience gained during her time here and apply these insights to future projects worldwide.
