Samuel Belderink
Samuel studied Architecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam where he worked on his graduation project; an investigation into how urban agriculture can be successfully used inside a building. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Architecture at TU Delft.
"I have always been fascinated by technical machines, structures, and buildings around me. As a child I found an outlet in making and designing all kinds of things, and looking back, it was clear early on that I would want to do something with this later. I ended up choosing architecture because, for me, it means a perfect combination of designing, solving technical problems, and working as part of a team. The combination of the creative and the social aspect suits me well."
For Samuel, a good design means that a building's features and design choices come together in its appearance. To him, a building really takes on a character of its own when it can be subtly read from it what the function is and how the system works.
"The designs of Paul de Ruiter Architects appeal to me because they are progressive in applying innovative techniques, modern design, and user-friendliness. The vision that sustainability helps rather than hinders the user was the deciding factor for me to work for this firm."
At Paul de Ruiter Architects, Samuel works primarily on the concept phase of a new project. Through the creation of models, sketches, and 3D studies, he reaches the beginning of a new design.
"The connectedness within the firm feels pleasant and makes me feel completely at home here. Within the design process, there is plenty of space and time allowing me to develop my creative thoughts into a beautiful concept."
