“For me, architecture is much more than making buildings. It is about shaping our living environment and about designs that can positively influence behaviour, the experience of space, and our relationships with one another.”
I am currently studying architecture in Bucharest and expect to complete my master’s degree next year. My fascination with architecture began when I first encountered the work and design methodology of BIG. I realised that architecture is much broader than just form and function: it is the practice of influencing our environment, cities, and lives. During my Erasmus exchange in Alicante, I discovered how strongly culture and traditions influence the way of building and designing. That experience taught me that architecture is always multiple: it not only solves functional needs but also reflects beliefs and ideas of beauty. Alongside my studies, I gained practical experience at a design office in Bucharest, where I worked on projects for more than a year. There I learned about the different development stages of a building, how to collaborate with engineers and other professionals, and how to coordinate with municipalities and institutions. Recently, I started my internship at Paul de Ruiter Architects. For my first international experience, I deliberately sought an ambitious office with a clear vision of sustainability. The open and collegial working atmosphere I encounter here stimulates the exchange of knowledge and the asking of questions, which helps me grow as a designer. Sustainability is a theme that received relatively little attention during my studies, but one that I have always remained very curious about. I am convinced that sustainable architecture is the only way to adequately respond to the social, ecological, and climate challenges of today and tomorrow.
