Ivo Casadio De Barba
Ivo Casadio obtained his Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a Double Degree Programme student, he continued his studies with a Master's in Sustainable Architecture at the Polytechnic of Turin. In his research thesis titled "Can wood be urban?" he inquires the extent to which wood is a sustainable material for use in urban environments. During his Master's program, he interned at the Italian architectural firm Conzedelle Plane and worked as a freelancer on 3D modeling and rendering.
His fascination with architecture and wood began at a young age, influenced by the fact that his parents worked in construction. Growing up in, Patagonia (San Carlos de Bariloche), he spent a lot of time outdoors, leading to a strong connection with nature. Wood as a material always intrigued him, not only because of its natural properties but also as a potential building material as a tool for reducing the carbon footprint by storing CO2 and its positive reuse scenarios. Ivo believes that architecture can, and must have a positive and sustainable impact on the environment.
One of the organizations he mentioned as an inspiration in his thesis was Paul de Ruiter Architects. It was a logical step for him to continue his journey there. Ivo stated, "I was particularly drawn to the firm because of our shared values: in the projects of PDRA, as well as in the materials they use in their designs and how the team interacts with each other."
