On Tuesday, June 9, the book Ontwerpen aan waardenrijke woongebouwen will be launched at Pakhuis de Zwijger, where designers, researchers, and the public will engage in a dialogue about a new housing system in which social value takes center stage.

With the overwhelming housing shortage, efficiency seems to be the greatest good; The Hague preaches fast and effective construction policy: build, build, build, and ten new cities. This often leads to smaller homes, a lack of social facilities, and cheaper materials. These are solutions aimed at the short term and heavily influenced by market logic. In Ontwerpen aan waardenrijke woongebouwen (Designing value-rich residential buildings), Ed Melet, Rashid Rashidi, and Kees Versluis show how residential buildings can regain quality, societal significance, and future-proofing. The researchers propose a new system: one where the home is not an object for the market, but a place to live. This evening, we will engage in a discussion: who do we need for this new system, and what can we do?

The book presentation will take place on Tuesday, June 9, at Pakhuis de Zwijger. You can register via: https://dezwijger.nl/programma/ontwerpen-aan-waardenrijke-woongebouwen
