While the Netherlands watched the Netherlands-England match with anticipation on Wednesday evening, Paul de Ruiter Architects was in London for the annual BREEAM Awards ā the most important international awards for sustainable construction. And with good reason: the Unilever Foods Innovation Centre 'Hive', designed by us for Unilever and Dura Vermeer, won the award for Best New Construction, Non-residential Project.
With a BREEAM-NL Outstanding certification of 93.24%, the Wageningen-based Hive is the most sustainable laboratory building in the world. Nutritionists, startups, researchers, and students collaborate there on the food innovations of the future. The evening saw several Dutch successes. HAUT Amsterdam (Team V Architectuur) was awarded Best New Construction Residential Project, Mark e.o. HUIZEN received the prize for Best BREEAM In-Use Residential Building, and Fugro NewHQ (Cepezed) won the People's Choice Whole of BREEAM Award. Despite the disappointment surrounding the premature end of the Dutch European Championship adventure, we are proud of the Dutch successes in sustainable construction. These recognitions underscore the innovative character and leading position of the Netherlands in the world of sustainable architecture.
