Today, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for Villa Artemis in Swifterbant. The house, designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects, will be situated in the heart of the 7-hectare agricultural land being transformed into a biodiverse estate that will provide a haven for local flora and fauna. The estate will be accessible to everyone.
The villa is designed to bring you closer to nature. The tall windows and natural materials that blend seamlessly with the surroundings create the feeling of living outdoors, even when you're inside. "We felt it was important to work with an architect who has a nature-inclusive style and uses energy-efficient and sustainable materials. We want to live comfortably while minimizing our impact on the environment," explain the residents. The energy-neutral villa, made of circular materials, has a striking, rounded shape, situated on a slope that conceals an additional floor. The focal point of the house is the outdoor patio in the center, featuring a tree.
The villa's residents want more than just a comfortable place to live. Therefore, the land surrounding their villa is being transformed into a freely accessible nature reserve with space for recreation. "The plot was designated for agricultural use. Thanks to new regulations, we were able to change this, so that soon everyone here, in our 'backyard,' can walk, relax, and experience nature." Restoring the local ecology aligns with the Flevoland Rural Area Program, which strives for a sustainable, habitable, and healthy rural area. In addition to a large water feature, walking paths, toad ponds, and woods with abundant native shrubs, the estate will also feature amphibian ponds, where frogs, toads, and salamanders can thrive. The grassland will also be sown with only native species, significantly boosting local biodiversity. "The Artemis estate is intended to become a true green oasis in the polder."
In addition to Paul de Ruiter Architects, landscape architect B4o, interior architect Marina van der Goor, lighting designer BeersNielsen, cost estimators Kamphuis Stauffeli, structural engineers Lüning, and Healthy Buildings contributed to the design. The construction of the villa is being carried out by contractors Valleibouw, SI-X, Bos swimming pools, Woodteq, Madé Betonwerken, and Knipscheer Infra. Completion of the villa and the park is scheduled for 2025.
