Merlijn van As
Merlijn obtained his bachelor's degree in Architecture from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, specializing in architecture. At JoustraReid and MNNR Architects, he worked on the transformation of a national heritage monument and various new construction projects, where he developed visual concepts and collaborated closely with consultants. He is currently working at Paul de Ruiter Architects on the sustainable Trudo project in Eindhoven, which consists of five social housing buildings entirely made of wood, including the lift core. His role is to translate the vision of the architect, consultants, and client into a detailed 3D BIM model that will serve as the basis for the contractor to realize the project.
Merlijn derives great satisfaction from solving complex issues by converting input from various parties into practical solutions. He continuously challenges himself to develop efficient systems that are valuable not only now but also in the future. Additionally, he enjoys delving into software to find elegant and effective solutions.
“For me, sustainability is more than a buzzword; it is a genuine driving force in my work at Paul de Ruiter Architects. This is not only reflected in the projects but also in the company culture, which places a strong emphasis on health and well-being. By investing in both people and projects, there is a continuous pursuit of higher standards in quality and sustainability, with the ultimate goal of achieving a healthier planet.”
