Paul de Ruiter Architects is looking for a new intern | September 2026 - January 2027

Back to overview

We believe that buildings should generate energy, not consume it - both in the technical and human sense. Are you an architecture student and want to contribute to sustainable architecture that knows where the sun rises and where people feel happy and inspired? Then we're looking for you!

What will you be doing?

During this practical internship, you'll become familiar with all phases of the design process. Under the guidance of our architects and structural engineers, you'll contribute to the design, development, detailing, and realization of complex, sustainable projects; from hotels and offices to residential and educational buildings. We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our team from September 2026 to January 2027. You are curious, a strong designer, and interested in sustainability, circularity, and innovative construction techniques. Do you want to contribute to buildings that generate energy – for both people and the environment? Then we'd love to meet you.

Who are you?

- Architecture student (final bachelor's degree/early master's degree);
- Passion for sustainable architecture;
- Available for at least four months;
- Dutch preferred; English is negotiable.

What do we offer?

- An informal learning environment with plenty of room for personal input;
- Working on innovative sustainable projects;
- A multidisciplinary and close-knit team;
- An inspiring, green work environment;
- Travel and bicycle allowance;
- Daily (vegetarian) lunch;
- Internship allowance of €750 per month (40 hours);
- Excursions and various other office activities.

About Paul de Ruiter Architects

Paul de Ruiter Architects is a group of distinctive designers with a passion for sustainability and architecture, B-Corp certified since 2016. The firm originated in 1994 from the doctoral research The Chameleon Skin, in which Paul de Ruiter argues that buildings should generate energy rather than consume it – both technically and humanly. This conviction has formed the basis of our work for over thirty years. We are at the forefront of healthy, circular, and energy-generating buildings, both nationally and internationally. From the self-sufficient Villa Kogelhof to the biobased Biosintrum, the energy-positive Langeveld Building, and the transformation of monuments into Paris Proof buildings, such as C93 in Rotterdam. Our office is located in a renovated steel workshop in Amsterdam's Schinkelbuurt and is – naturally – sustainable itself. Here, we work with a diverse and international team of approximately 40 architects, designers, and specialists on future-proof architecture.
