Freelance PR & Communications Consultant (16 hours per week)

Paul de Ruiter Architects is seeking an experienced freelance PR and communications consultant for approximately 16 hours a week to collaborate with us on a long-term basis. Sustainability is embedded in the DNA of our B-Corp certified architecture firm. We constantly seek sustainable and innovative solutions to architectural challenges and aim to contribute to a future-proof built environment through our projects. This creates a wealth of stories and PR opportunities. We are looking for someone to help us identify these more clearly, tell them more effectively, and showcase them more strategically.

A role with impact

We are building a small communications team that brings together diverse areas of expertise. As a freelance PR and communications consultant, you will play a key role in this team.

• Together with your small team, you will develop and oversee the firm’s communications strategy.
• You will be more than just an advisor; we are looking for someone who enjoys bridging the gap between strategy and execution.
• You will translate our strategic direction into concrete PR and communications activities, identify opportunities to increase the visibility of the firm and our projects, and contribute ideas regarding our positioning and profile.
• You will maintain and cultivate relevant contacts with the media and other stakeholders, and know which stories appeal to the national press.
• Additionally, you will work closely with our junior communications and PR officer, acting as a sounding board, helping to set priorities, and providing coaching where needed.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an independent communications professional with extensive experience in PR, corporate communications, and media relations. Experience in architecture is welcome but not a requirement; we value a strong network within national media and an affinity for architecture, design, culture, innovation, and sustainability just as highly.

You:

• can think strategically and act practically;
• have demonstrable experience with PR and media outreach;
• identify stories and media opportunities yourself;
• write excellently and understand what journalists need;
• are a strong yet personable sparring partner;
• enjoy mentoring a less experienced communications colleague;
• work independently but actively seek collaboration;
• are available for approximately two days a week on a long-term basis.

The assignment

• This is a freelance or employment-based role for approximately 16 hours per week, preferably for an extended period.
• We are looking for someone who does not remain at a distance but truly wants to feel connected to the firm and the people who work there.
• Location: hybrid, Amsterdam

Paul de Ruiter Architects is a group of distinctive designers passionate about sustainability and architecture; we have been B Corp certified since 2016. Our firm originated in 1994 from the doctoral research project The Chameleon Skin, in which Paul de Ruiter argued that buildings should generate energy rather than consume it - in both technical and human terms.
