Building Paris Proof: the challenge of the future

Following the 2015 climate agreements, the term "Paris Proof" was introduced, which stands for rapidly improving the sustainability of the built environment. This is because research shows that construction and buildings have a significant, negative impact on climate change. To become Paris Proof, companies must meet certain sustainability requirements for their buildings.

These requirements relate to:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Climate adaptation
  • The use of sustainable energy sources and low-carbon materials
  • The reuse, recycling, and repair of materials
  • The monitoring and measurement of energy consumption and emissions

To achieve this, both construction and buildings must be radically overhauled. Because the Netherlands doesn't have an infinite supply of sustainable energy, buildings must become significantly more energy-efficient. This must also be measurable and demonstrable.

Paris-Proof is a game-changer: the goal is for all buildings in the Netherlands to meet these standards by 2050. To achieve this, intermediate steps have been built in: the first hurdle must be overcome by 2030, the next by 2040. Paul de Ruiter Architects is happy to help clients make their properties Paris-Proof in the most efficient and aesthetic way.
